The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken an early lead in at least 10 seats in the West Bengal assembly elections, with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress (TMC) trailing behind.
Mamata Banerjee is currently trailing in Bhabanipur against her ex-close aide Suvendu Adhikari, who is contesting from two seats and is also ahead in Nandigram.
The counting of votes began at 8 am, with the BJP leading in 14 seats and the TMC in nine constituencies, according to data by analytics portal PValue.
However, early leads' data by other media reports show a neck-and-neck contest between the two main contenders.
