The Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) and Pasighat Municipal Council (PMC) civic polls have concluded with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerging victorious in Itanagar, securing 14 out of 20 seats. The Peoples' Party of Arunachal (PPA) claimed victory in Pasighat, winning five of the eight wards. Significantly, the opposition Congress failed to secure a single seat in both civic bodies. Notably, 10 of the 20 IMC seats were won by women candidates, while four BJP candidates were elected unopposed earlier. In Pasighat, PPA candidates secured five seats, with the BJP and an independent candidate winning two and one seat respectively. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) managed to win three and two seats, respectively. The election results were announced on Saturday, with the State Election Commission (SEC) attributing the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) to the smooth conduct of the polls. The counting of votes for panchayat bodies, including 186 zilla parishad member (ZPM) seats and 1,947 gram panchayat member (GPM) seats, is ongoing through ballot papers and is expected to be delayed. Simultaneous panchayat polls and civic body elections were held on December 15.
