Sarbananda Sonowal, a key strategist for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has emphasized the need to corner illegal immigrants in Assam and make them landless.

In an interview, Sonowal, a former chief minister and Union minister, shared his views on the party's prospects and key issues ahead of the assembly elections in Assam.

He attributed the BJP's strong prospects to the outstanding success story in Assam under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, which has created immense confidence among the public.

When asked about anti-incumbency, Sonowal dismissed the possibility, stating that there is pro-incumbency in favour of the government and party.

He estimated that the BJP and its allies will win close to 100 seats out of 126.

Sonowal highlighted the need to address the issue of illegal immigration, which he claimed poses a threat to the existence, language, culture, and identity of the indigenous Assamese.

He emphasized that the government has done a lot to evict illegal settlers from government lands, but more needs to be done to make them landless and lower their strength and confidence.

Sonowal also downplayed the opposition's chances, citing their weakness at the grassroots level.

He appealed to voters to help the BJP continue to do good work by bringing them back to power, ensuring faster growth of Assam and protecting the land, language, culture, and identity of the Assamese people.
