Union Home Minister Amit Shah has asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will win at least 110 seats in the first phase of the West Bengal assembly elections and form the government in the state.
Shah made the statement while addressing an election rally at Jamalpur in East Midnapore, where polling for 152 assembly seats was held in the first phase on April 23.
The remaining 142 seats will go to polls in the second phase on April 29, with just two days left before campaigning ends for the second phase.
Shah criticized the Trinamool Congress (TMC) rule, alleging that women were not safe under Mamata Banerjee's regime, and accused her government of denying citizenship rights to members of the Matua community.
He also took potshots at Banerjee over her plans to file a 'legal case' against him for 'violent remarks', saying she keeps losing in court and will continue to do so.
Several senior BJP leaders, including Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, also campaigned in the state, predicting that the BJP could win over 200 seats in West Bengal.
