The Bombay high court has sought the National Investigation Agency's (NIA) response to an appeal filed by Irfan Khan, a key accused in the 2022 murder of Amravati pharmacist Umesh Kolhe.
Kolhe was attacked and hacked to death on June 21, 2022, while returning home on his scooter, allegedly in connection with social media posts supporting former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma.
The NIA claims that Irfan Khan, a real estate dealer, instigated and supported the assailants who killed Kolhe, and that the murder was carried out with the intention of spreading terror among Hindus.
Khan has denied the allegations, stating that he has been falsely implicated and has deep roots in society through his NGO, Rahebar, which provided medical assistance during the Covid-19 pandemic.
