A 28-year-old carpenter has been arrested for allegedly beating his seven-month-pregnant wife to death in Assam's Cachar district following an argument over his extramarital affair.
The victim, Rabiya Begum, was taken to Silchar Medical College and Hospital in critical condition, but unfortunately, she died.
Rabiya's family members claimed that Beru Miya Laskar, the accused, had tortured her in the past and had even left her house, but they convinced her to return every time.
However, this time, it went too far, and now Beru is denying the murder allegation and claiming it was a case of suicide.
Investigating officer Junu Ranjan Deori said that Rabiya's family lodged an FIR at the Silchar Sadar Police Station, and a case was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The accused has been detained and formally arrested, and further investigation is underway.
