The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has formed a 7-member SIT led by DIG Pankaj Kumar Singh to investigate the murder of Chandranath Rath, an aide to West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.

The SIT is currently taking over from local police and examining case documents, while also taking the custody of three men suspected to be involved in the murder.

Rath, a 41-year-old former Indian Air Force serviceman, was shot dead from close range inside his SUV on May 6, two days after the BJP swept to power in the state.

The motive behind the murder is still unclear, but the CBI probe is expected to reveal more once the perpetrators are caught.
