A Bhopal district court has granted the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) a five-day custody of former judge Giribala Singh, mother-in-law of alleged dowry-death victim Twisha Sharma. This comes a day after Giribala was arrested following the cancellation of her anticipatory bail in the case.

Giribala faces charges under the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961 and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, for her alleged role in Twisha's death. The CBI has also secured a five-day extension in the custody of Twisha's husband, Samarth Singh.

The Supreme Court of India had directed the CBI to take over the investigation and proceed with the matter expeditiously. The case involves serious allegations of dowry harassment and cruelty against Twisha by her husband and in-laws.
