The Centre has failed to provide clarity on the delay in launching the National Urban Digital Mission (NUDM), a scheme announced in the 2024–25 Union Budget. Despite the budget allocation, no expenditure has been recorded over the past two financial years.

The scheme aims to enable efficient citizen-centric governance, increased ease of living, and optimal utilisation of technology and data-led governance. However, a revised contour of the scheme is currently under deliberation with stakeholders in the ministry.

A parliamentary standing committee report has flagged concerns over delays in finalising such schemes, citing uncertainty in implementation, under-utilisation of funds, and lack of accountability in outcomes.

The committee has recommended that proposals such as NUDM should be placed before the Cabinet/EFC at the earliest, with a clearly defined timeline for their operational roll-out.
