Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced a ban on the Bollywood song 'Sarke Chunar' featuring Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt, citing the need for 'reasonable restrictions' on freedom of speech. Speaking in the Lok Sabha, Vaishnaw stated that freedom of expression cannot be absolute and must be considered in the context of society and culture.
The song, part of the upcoming Kannada film KD: The Devil, sparked controversy due to its sexually explicit lyrics and provocative visuals. Despite being removed from YouTube, versions in other languages remain available on the platform.
Lyricist Raqeeb Alam distanced himself from the controversy, claiming he only translated the original Kannada lyrics. Several public figures and politicians have criticized the song, with some calling for stricter regulation of such content.
A complaint has been filed seeking urgent legal action against the song, alleging it contains highly vulgar and obscene expressions. In response, the film's team has asked Alam to write a fresh version with clean lyrics, which may be released along with an apology note.
