The Centre has notified the Central Armed Police Forces (General Administration) Act, 2026, following President's assent on April 9, 2026.
The Act establishes a unified legal framework for the five CAPFs and codifies IPS officer deputation at senior levels.
CAPF associations have long opposed IPS deputation, but the government maintains it's essential for effective functioning and Centre-State coordination.
The Act proposes 67% of additional director general posts and 50% of inspector general posts be held by IPS officers on deputation.
Former CAPF personnel and their families have vowed to march from India Gate to Rashtrapati Bhawan on June 15, 2026, if talks are not initiated.
