In a move to ensure timely consideration of pressing cases, a special vacation bench led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant has been constituted to hear urgent matters on December 22. Alongside Justice Joymalya Bagchi, CJI Kant will sit to hear 17 cases, including several high-priority criminal and civil matters. The apex court has arranged this special sitting to address cases that require immediate judicial intervention during the vacation period. According to the cause list, the bench will convene at 11 am on Monday to consider the urgency of the listed cases. In a statement last week, CJI Kant expressed his willingness to sit on Christmas Eve to hear urgent matters, ensuring that other judges are not burdened with case files. The Supreme Court registry will verify the urgency of each case and list them accordingly. The CJI-led bench has instructed junior lawyers to argue their cases on December 22, stating that cases will only be heard if they are argued on the scheduled date. The Supreme Court will remain closed from December 22 to January 2, 2026, for the Christmas and New Year holidays.
