In a shocking move, Suren Daimari, the Congress candidate for the Udalguri (ST) constituency, announced his resignation from the party just a day before Assam heads to the polls.

Daimari cited a total lack of organisational support and communication from the state leadership as the reason for his exit.

He claimed the party abandoned him after filing his nomination last month and received no guidance or financial support for his campaign.

Despite attempting to contact senior leaders, Daimari said he received no response, adding that there was no coordination, support or guidance throughout the campaign.

However, the Congress claims Daimary had not submitted his resignation to the party and election officials said it was too late to back out of the fray.
