Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has called for an all-party meeting to discuss changes in the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, providing reservation for women in Lok Sabha and state assemblies.
Kharge's comments come after parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju reached out to him to sound him out on possible amendments to the act for speedier implementation.
The Congress wants the government to consult leaders of all parties, as individual talks won't help, Kharge said.
According to Congress leaders, Rijiju has started consulting leaders across parties to discuss the possibility of delinking the Women's Reservation Act from the condition that requires carrying out delimitation and Census.
The idea is to push this through ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
