Voting has concluded in the Assembly elections in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Assam, with exit polls predicting a win for the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF). The question now is who will be the chief minister if the UDF wins.
Senior Congress leader Tariq Anwar has hinted that party general secretary KC Venugopal could be the next chief minister of Kerala, but stressed that the decision ultimately lies with the party high command.
Anwar said that if Venugopal is interested, he can be considered for the post, but the high command will take a final view. He also clarified that Venugopal will have to undergo the requisite process if he is to become the chief minister.
The exit polls have predicted that the UDF will win between 70-90 seats, while the CPI(M)-headed Left Democratic Front (LDF) is expected to get 49-65 seats. The results will be declared on May 4.
