The Congress and Left parties have rejected Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee's offer to form a united platform against the Bharatiya Janata Party.

CPI(M) state secretary Md Salim said, 'Absolutely not. We will not accept anyone identified as criminal, extortionist, corrupt and communal.'

State Congress spokesperson Soumya Aich Roy questioned Banerjee's definition of 'ultra-Left', asking if she meant the Maoists who killed 18 Congress leaders and workers in Chhattisgarh in 2013.

Banerjee had released a video message on Saturday, urging opposition parties to unite against the BJP, but her offer was rejected by the Congress and Left parties.
