Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi has joined the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) in Assam, a day after resigning from the party. He accused the Congress leadership of sidelining him, citing multiple issues, including ticket distribution for the Assam Assembly elections.
Reacting to the development, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra called Bordoloi's decision 'unfortunate' and suggested that differences over ticket allocation may have led to the decision.
Bordoloi joined the BJP in the presence of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and state BJP chief Dilip Saikia. He said he could have accepted the humiliation of not getting a ticket if he wanted to remain as an MP, but decided to leave and work.
The Assam Assembly elections are scheduled to take place on April 9, and the counting of votes will be held on May 4.
