Congress launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led government, accusing it of a systematic rise in atrocities against Dalits, OBCs, and women in BJP-ruled states.
The party's SC department chairman, Rajendra Pal Gautam, referred to the alleged rape and murder of a teenage girl from the Vishwakarma community in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh.
Gautam claimed that police stopped a Congress delegation, including former UP Congress president Ajay Kumar Lallu and former MP Ravi Verma, at the Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi, preventing them from meeting the victim's family.
Prohibitory orders were issued in Ghazipur following the victim's death, and Gautam alleged that the BJP is using its power to crush Dalits, backward classes, labourers, and farmers.
Lallu questioned the government's motives, asking why it was preventing the Congress delegation from meeting the family.
The Congress also highlighted several cases of violence against backward communities in BJP-ruled states, including a 23-year-old Dalit groom being dragged off a horse and beaten during his pre-wedding procession in Madhya Pradesh.
