The Congress has suspended MLC K Abdul Jabbar from primary membership due to alleged anti-party activities in the run-up to the recent by-election in Davanagere South.

The decision reportedly stemmed from a dispute over ticket allocation, with Jabbar's bid being rejected in favour of sitting MLA Shamanuru Shivashankarappa's grandson.

Jabbar accused senior leaders of favouring a single family and claimed he was being singled out, despite working for the party since his days in the National Students' Union of India.

Internal reviews have also flagged the roles of Karnataka minister B.Z. Zameer Ahmed Khan and MLC Naseer Ahmed in actions that may have affected the party's official campaign.
