The Indian National Congress has announced its candidates for the 2026 West Bengal assembly elections, set to take place in two phases on April 23 and April 29. The counting of votes is scheduled for May 4.

Notably, the party has decided to contest the elections independently, without forming an alliance with other blocs like the Left Front.

Former state unit chief Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury will contest from Baharampur, while Mausam Noor will contest from Malatipur.

Congress's decision to contest independently reflects its shift to a multi-pronged approach, moving away from the traditional TMC vs BJP dynamic in the state.
