The Congress party walked out of the Chhattisgarh assembly on Tuesday, accusing the BJP-led Union government of weakening the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA).
Former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel alleged that the Union government altered the scheme's structure and diluted the rights guaranteed under it.
Leader of Opposition Charan Das Mahant said the party had indicated its plan to move an adjournment motion and then boycott proceedings.
However, the motion was disallowed by the Speaker, Dharamlal Kaushik, who said the subject pertained to the Central government.
The Congress party staged a walkout in protest, with Mahant asserting that they would continue to fight for the welfare of the poor people.
