An electrical inspection team has started its probe into the AC blast and fire that killed retired IAS officer Dhanendra Kumar in his Hauz Khas Enclave house.
Kumar, the first chairman of the Competition Commission of India (CCI) between 2009 and 2011, died at the AIIMS Trauma Centre on Thursday morning after being rushed to hospital around midnight.
A preliminary investigation suggests Kumar was in the washroom when the fire broke out and spread rapidly, by the time his family reached him, he had collapsed.
A case has been filed under sections 106 and 287 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Hauz Khas police station, and officials of the city government's Electrical Inspectorate have visited the house to inspect the AC and determine the fault that led to the blast.
The police team will also question officials from the A-C firm, the AC mechanic, and the family about the maintenance of the appliance.
