Thick fog enveloped the Delhi-NCR region on Monday morning, significantly disrupting air and rail travel. The Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport was severely affected, with visibility plummeting to 500 meters at 10:30 am IST. According to officials, 128 flights were canceled, eight diverted, and over 200 others delayed due to the poor visibility conditions. The situation was exacerbated by the poor air quality in the region. Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) reached 402 at 8 am, categorizing it as 'severe' and hazardous. Multiple locations across the city recorded AQI levels above 400, with Anand Vihar, Wazirpur, and Rohini being among the worst-affected areas. Airlines, including IndiGo, Air India, and Spice Jet, have issued advisories, urging passengers to check their flight status before heading to the airport. Delhi airport officials assured that ground teams were working to ensure a smooth travel experience for passengers. Airport operations were being conducted under CAT III procedures, which enable safe landings in extremely low visibility conditions. Passengers are advised to contact their respective airlines for the latest flight updates. The situation is being closely monitored, and further updates will be provided as necessary.
