Delhi Braces for Sweltering Heat, 40°C by April 15: IMD

The Capital's temperatures continued their steady climb, with Delhi recording a sunny day and a maximum temperature of 34.7 degrees Celsius on Saturday.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the incremental rise over the past few days is on course to take the maximum to the 40°C mark by Wednesday.

Delhi logged maximum temperatures of 30.8°C and 32.8°C on Thursday and Friday, respectively, after recording a decade-low monthly maximum temperature of 28.2°C on April 8.

The IMD forecasted a gradual rise in maximum temperatures by 6-7°C during the next 7 days, with prevailing below normal Maximum temperatures likely to become normal during the next 2 days and above normal to appreciably above normal thereafter.

Experts attributed the rise in temperature to a lack of weather activity, with dry winds and continuous, bright sunshine expected over the next few days.

A heatwave-like condition may also occur over the next few days, with temperatures expected to rise further.
