The Delhi High Court has ordered the immediate restoration of the blocked parody account 'Dr. Nimo Yadav' on social media platform X, operated by Prateek Sharma. However, certain posts flagged as objectionable by the Centre will remain blocked for now.
Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav passed the order while hearing a plea filed by Sharma and Kumar Nayan, the operator of parody account Nehr Who. The court directed Sharma to appear before a Review Committee to examine whether the objectionable posts will continue being blocked.
The Centre had blocked 12 X accounts, including Dr. Nimo Yadav and Nehr Who, under the directives of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeiTY) on March 19. The government had termed the posts on Dr. Nimo Yadav account as 'defamatory' and said they posed 'internal security threats'.
Sharma's counsel alleged that he was not given the government order of March 18 to block his account and that the blocking order was 'illegal and arbitrary.'
