The Delhi High Court is set to hear a plea seeking directions to the Delhi Police to step up patrolling and security in the Uttam Nagar area, amid fears of possible violence raised by members of the Muslim community.

The plea comes after the killing of a 26-year-old man during Holi, with Eid approaching.

The Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR) filed the plea, which was mentioned by senior advocate Nitya Ramakrishna before a bench of chief justice DK Upadhyaya and justice Tejas Karia.

Several Muslim families living in Uttam Nagar's Hastsal village plan to leave the locality until the situation normalises, ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr festival this weekend.

The tension began after a dispute between two families on March 4, which turned into a physical fight, leaving eight people injured and a 26-year-old man dead.
