The Delhi High Court has observed that the line between criticism and defamation is 'quite thin' in a case involving Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha.

Chadha had filed a lawsuit against the publication of alleged malicious social media posts that he said were prejudicial to his reputation and personality rights.

However, the court noted that criticism of a political leader's decision is not a violation of their personality rights.

Justice Subramonium Prasad said that while an individual has the right to live with dignity, the right to free speech under the Constitution also cannot be taken away.

The court reserved its verdict on the aspect of interim relief to take down the alleged offending content.

Meanwhile, Chadha has been nominated as the chairman of the Committee on Petitions of the Rajya Sabha, a Parliament notification said.
