The Public Works Department in Delhi has decided to take down all 500 national flags across the city due to damage complaints. The flags were installed at prime locations in 2022 as part of the 'Deshbhakti' initiative to promote nationalism.
According to officials, the flags were damaged due to strong winds and bad weather. The 115-foot-high flagpoles were installed at around 500 locations, and the flags were made of polyester material to prevent frequent damage.
The department has decided to bring down all the flags to prevent further damage and will re-hoist them once the thunderstorm warning is cleared. The team is currently checking for damaged flags and replacing them with undamaged ones.
