The Delhi government has launched 100 'Atal Canteens' across the city, providing affordable meals at ₹5 per plate to low-income residents. The initiative is part of the government's election promise and aims to benefit the poor and underprivileged. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated 45 of these canteens, while work on the remaining 55 is expected to be completed soon. The canteens, which were promised in the BJP's Delhi election manifesto, have been set up with an allocation of ₹100 crore in the Delhi Budget 2025-26. The menu will include dal-chawal, vegetables, and roti, with nearly 500 meals served every morning and evening. The canteens are equipped with modern facilities, including LPG-based cooking systems, industrial RO water facilities, and cold storage. Officials will also be monitoring the canteens in real-time through CCTV cameras. Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar praised the BJP government for releasing funds worth ₹2,700 crore for projects, including those from previous periods. The launch of Atal Canteens comes amidst the 100th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The initiative has been welcomed by residents, who have long been demanding better facilities in the city. Delhi has been 'crying out for facilities' for the past 20 years, according to Union Minister Khattar, who commended the BJP government for its efforts to improve the lives of Delhi's residents.
