Budapest, Hungary - 18-year-old Delhi-based chess player Shivika Rohilla has made history by becoming a Woman International Master after a final round draw in the first Saturday chess tournament. This achievement marks a significant milestone in her chess career, following a first norm back in 2023.

Shivika's journey to this title was not without its challenges. She had come close to achieving the final norm in the last 10 tournaments but missed the opportunities. However, big victories early in the tournament helped her regain confidence, and despite a few problems towards the end, she finally achieved her goal.

Scoring 4.5 points out of nine games, Shivika also ensured a decent rise in her rating. Her WIM rating requirements were completed in 2025 after a tournament in Poland.

Shivika expressed her gratitude to her coaches who helped her grow as a player. She credited them with believing in her more than she believed in herself and acknowledged their significant contribution to her success.

Looking ahead, Shivika plans to return to the European circuit in June and play a handful of events to take her game to the next level. Her achievement is a testament to the growing women's chess scene in India, with Shivika becoming the third player from Delhi to achieve the WIM title.
