A 22-year-old woman from Delhi claimed a taxi driver attempted to sexually assault her on her way to Nainital, but she escaped and hid in a forested area overnight.
Police have registered a case against the unidentified driver and are searching for him.
The woman, a Delhi resident, hired a taxi from Haldwani to Nainital around midnight and was travelling alone.
She alleged the driver, who appeared to be drunk, started molesting her and attempted to sexually assault her.
When she resisted, the driver allegedly assaulted her, prompting her to escape and run into a nearby forested area.
The woman spent the entire night hiding near the roadside in the forested area before a local spotted her and helped her reach the police station in Nainital.
Police have carried out a spot inspection and sent the woman to BD Pandey Hospital for medical examination.
