The Kerala government is gearing up to file an appeal against the acquittal of actor Dileep in the 2017 actress assault case. The state government has given its nod to challenge the district court's verdict, which acquitted Dileep and sentenced six others to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment. Special Public Prosecutor V Aja Kumar stated that the appeal will be filed after the Kerala High Court's Christmas vacation, as the court is currently on vacation. Kumar, who has prepared the grounds for appeal, emphasized that the state government is determined to expedite the process. The acquittal has drawn criticism, particularly from the survivor, who expressed her disappointment on social media. The actress was abducted and assaulted in February 2017, with the crime allegedly recorded on a mobile phone. Dileep was arrested for conspiracy in the case. The Kerala government's decision to appeal the verdict marks a significant development in the ongoing trial.
