S. Muthusamy, a senior leader of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party, is set to contest the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections from the Erode (West) constituency.

With years of political and administrative experience, Muthusamy has served as a minister in various key departments, including Transport, Health, Housing and Urban Development, and Prohibition and Excise.

He previously aligned with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) before switching to DMK in 2010, marking a major turning point in his political career.

Muthusamy won the Erode (West) seat in 2021 with 100,757 votes, beating AIADMK's K.V. Ramalingam by 22,089 votes, but the constituency has seen close races in recent elections.

As the Minister for Prohibition and Excise, Muthusamy has faced criticism over the state's dependence on liquor revenue through TASMAC, following incidents like the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy in 2024.
