The Dravida Munetra Kazhagam (DMK) has attacked its INDIA bloc ally, the Congress, over its decision to extend support to actor-turned-politician Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) to form a government in Tamil Nadu.

DMK spokesperson Saravanan Annadurai called the Congress a "backstabber" and questioned the TVK-Congress tie-up, hinting that Vijay's outfit is "close to the BJP".

According to Saravanan, the five seats the Congress got in the Tamil Nadu assembly elections 2026 were because the party aligned with the DMK.

He added that when we speak of an alliance, the INDIA alliance, it is an alliance based on ideology.

Congress general secretary KC Venugopal said that Vijay had reached out to Congress and sought support to form the government, and that the party is determined not to "have BJP and its proxies" run the government in the southern state.

The DMK spokesperson wished Vijay good luck, but doubled down on his jab at the Congress, saying that the party has decided to flip sides and support the TVK, and the reasons cited by them are not convincing.
