Fourteen migrant workers from Jharkhand, India are facing a desperate situation in Dubai after being left unpaid for three months. The workers, who were hired for a transmission line project in October 2025, are struggling to afford basic necessities due to the lack of payment. They have sent a video detailing their ordeal to social activist Sikandar Ali, who is working to facilitate their safe return. According to Ali, the workers are being coerced into working overtime without compensation, leaving them with no choice but to struggle for food and accommodation. The Joint Labour Commissioner of Jharkhand, Pradeep Robert Lakra, has assured that steps are being taken to ensure their safe return, with the process expected to take at least 10 days to complete. The workers, who are from Giridih, Hazaribag, and Bokaro districts, are: Jageshwar Mahto, Phalendra Mahto, Baijnath Mahto, Dilip Mahto, Gangadhar Mahto, Triloki Mahto, Deepak Kumar, Rohit Mahto, Seva Mahto, Roshan Kumar, Ajay Kumar, Rajesh Mahto, and Daleshwar Mahto. Despite previous rescue missions, migrant workers from Jharkhand continue to face difficulties overseas, highlighting the need for the government to take proper initiative to protect their rights and facilitate their safe return.
