The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted searches at nine places across West Bengal in connection with its ongoing money laundering probe in the Public Distribution System (PDS) scam case.

The raids were conducted under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 (PMLA) at premises linked to suppliers and exporters in Kolkata, Burdwan, and Habra.

The investigation revealed that the accused diverted PDS wheat meant for welfare beneficiaries by procuring it at low prices through unauthorized channels.

Large quantities were illegally diverted from the supply chain and aggregated at multiple locations.

The accused removed or reversed original gunny bags and refilled them to conceal the origin of the wheat, resulting in undue enrichment and generation of Proceeds of Crime.
