A team of experts from Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) is en route to Andhra Pradesh's Dr. BR Ambedkar Konaseema district to tackle a massive gas well fire. The blaze, which erupted on January 5, has seen a reduction in intensity, with flames reaching up to 20 meters high and 25 meters wide. However, the situation remains critical, with authorities evacuating over 600 people from nearby villages as a precautionary measure. The fire, located near Mori and Irusumanda villages, is being monitored by officials from the Revenue, Police, and Fire departments, alongside personnel from ONGC, State Disaster Response Force, and the Red Cross. Deep Industries Ltd, the production enhancement contractor, has been operating the Mori-5 well for about a year. The company had secured a ₹1,402-crore contract in 2024 for production enhancement operations at ONGC's Rajahmundry Asset. The expert teams, arriving from Mumbai and Delhi, will assess the situation and take necessary measures to douse the flames. Authorities are optimistic that the fire will be extinguished soon, with all efforts being made to contain the situation.
