Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has slammed the opposition for politicizing the arrest of self-styled godman Ashok Kharat, who is accused of rape. Fadnavis said that attempts are being made to give the issue a political angle and slammed the rivals for their involvement with the accused.

The opposition has been seeking action against several Maharashtra leaders, including ministers, linked to Kharat. The resignation of NCP leader Rupali Chakankar from her post as chairperson of the Maharashtra state commission for women has added fuel to the fire.

Fadnavis assured that a high-level inquiry led by the director general of police (DGP) is underway and that no one will be spared. He said that the case was uncovered based on intelligence inputs and that anyone with evidence should come forward and assist the police.

The opposition has demanded that Chakankar be named as a co-accused in the case due to her links with Kharat. Kharat has connections with several politicians, businesspersons, and celebrities.

The row over Kharat's arrest began after he was arrested by Nashik police for allegedly raping a woman who had approached him for astrological advice. He has been remanded in police custody till March 24.
