Kolkata: Sahidullah Munshi, a former judge of the Calcutta High Court, has been removed from the electoral roll after an adjudication by judicial officers appointed by the Calcutta High Court.

Munshi, who was a judge from 2013 to 2020, claimed that his name was deleted despite submitting documents, including his passport and PAN card, to prove his eligibility.

He alleged that the Election Commission of India (ECI) may not have thoroughly examined the documents, leading to the deletion of his name.

The ECI has constituted 19 appellate tribunals across West Bengal to hear appeals against orders of judicial officers in cases involving voters marked 'under adjudication'.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has accused the ECI of helping the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) win the elections, while the BJP has refused to comment on the matter.
