Former Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi bid farewell to the Rajya Sabha on March 16, marking the end of his six-year term as a nominated member. Vice President CP Radhakrishnan praised Gogoi for his legal acumen and experience, saying he will be missed for his wise counsel and measured intervention.

Gogoi's attendance record showed he was absent 47% of the time, with an overall attendance of 53%. He spoke in only one debate, on the federal structure of governance in India, and asked no questions during his tenure.

Gogoi was nominated to the Rajya Sabha in 2019, just six months after his retirement as CJI. He said his acceptance of the nomination was based on a need for the legislature and judiciary to 'meet at one point of time'. During his tenure, he contributed to debates on major legislations, including the farm laws and women's reservation laws.

Gogoi also addressed foreign delegations and law enforcement agencies on various topics, including the evolution of the Indian Constitution. He supported the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023, which was later cleared by Parliament.
