Goa Businessman's Son Arrested for Fatal Car Crash

The Goa police have arrested a 21-year-old man for rash and negligent driving after a high-end Mini Cooper S car he was driving at high speed knocked over a motorcycle, killing a hotel staffer and injuring another.

The accident occurred at Dona Paula, an upscale locality of Panjim, on Sunday night. The victims, Diksha Parwadkar, 23, and D Arunkumar, were returning home from work after their shift.

Parwadkar, who was employed at the Taj Convention Centre, was declared dead on arrival, while Arunkumar is grievously injured. The accused, Darius Dias, son of a Goa-based businessman, was reportedly speeding at the time of the accident.

The police have registered a case against the driver and have placed him under arrest. Preliminary tests for blood alcohol have returned negative, but a test of blood samples is awaited.
