Dr Archana Gupta, 58, has been appointed the BJP's Haryana unit president, making her only the second woman to lead the party in the state.
She is a radiologist-turned-politician and the first woman to be named the party's Haryana unit chief in four decades.
Gupta, who has long been associated with the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), was serving as the BJP's state general secretary before her appointment.
She thanked the party for the trust placed in her, saying the move was a 'tribute' to every woman who had worked towards nation-building.
Gupta has vowed to work towards strengthening the party by taking everybody along in accordance with the party's policies and ideology.
