A 29-year-old man has been arrested and a minor detained in connection with the alleged gang rape of a 17-year-old girl in an abandoned factory in West Bengal's Hooghly district. The incident occurred on Thursday evening when the victim and her friend visited the factory after their tuition class. The police are now searching for the third accused. According to the police, two men allegedly filmed intimate moments with the victim and her friend, then blackmailed the girl with the video, leading to a gang rape. The victim's father filed a complaint with the Uttarpara police station on Friday, and the police have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The minor will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board, while the prime suspect, Dipankar Adhikari, has been arrested. Local residents have claimed that Adhikari posed as a TMC youth leader and civic volunteer, but the TMC has denied any links with the accused. The party has vowed to support the law in this case and demand strict punishment for those responsible.
