The Indian Air Force's elite Garud Special Forces are set to receive a cutting-edge, compact unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) system with enhanced range and endurance.
The system, designed to operate in extreme environmental conditions, including temperatures ranging from -20°C to 50°C, and at altitudes up to 16,400 feet, will provide high-altitude surveillance and operational support across various terrain and climatic conditions.
The proposed 'Micro UAV' system will have an increased range and endurance level compared to the existing system and will support day and night surveillance, target acquisition, and real-time situational awareness.
The system will be designed to operate with a two-person crew and will feature autonomous vertical take-off and landing capability, secure encrypted communication links, and multiple operational modes.
The project aims to enhance the operational capability of the IAF, promote indigenous design, development, and manufacturing, and reduce dependence on foreign systems.
