The wreckage of an Indian Air Force Sukhoi-30MKI fighter aircraft was found in the hills of Assam's Karbi Anglong district, with both pilots, Squadron Leader Anuj and Flight Lieutenant Purvesh Duragkar, confirmed dead.
The aircraft, on a training mission, lost radar contact shortly after taking off from the Jorhat airbase on Thursday evening.
IAF officials confirmed that the jet crashed in the area of Karbi Anglong, approximately 60 km from Jorhat, with the pilots sustaining fatal injuries.
The families of the pilots, who were part of the IAF's frontline air defense capability, expressed shock and grief over the tragic loss.
Squadron Leader Anuj, 32, was set to be married to a fellow IAF officer, while Flight Lieutenant Purvesh Duragkar, 28, had returned to Jorhat just over a fortnight ago after ending his leave.
The IAF has launched a detailed investigation into the incident, with further details expected to come to light in the coming days.
