Vikram Doraiswami, India's high commissioner to the UK, has been appointed as the new Ambassador to China, replacing Pradeep Kumar Rawat.

The decision comes as India and China attempt to rebuild ties strained by the four-year-long border standoff in eastern Ladakh.

Doraiswami, a senior diplomat with over two decades of experience, will assume charge shortly.

He joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1992 and has served in various capacities, including as ambassador to Uzbekistan and Korea, and head of the Bangladesh and Myanmar department.

Other key appointments include Secretary (East) P. Kumaran being posted to London, Additional Secretary Puneet Agarwal to Thailand, and Nagesh Singh moving from Thailand to Australia.
