The Indian government has directed state-run fuel retailers to enhance LPG storage infrastructure and maintain at least 30 days of reserves, amid concerns over supply disruptions caused by the West Asia conflict.

State-owned oil marketing companies have been asked to prepare plans for additional LPG storage capacity, with the government working to expand the country's crude oil storage capacity.

India has secured alternative crude oil and natural gas supplies, but disruptions in LPG imports have forced authorities to regulate supplies to commercial consumers.

The government maintains that India has adequate stocks of petrol, diesel, LPG, crude oil, and natural gas, with domestic refineries operating at optimum levels and LPG production reaching an all-time high.

However, abnormal sales are being observed at many petrol pumps, driven by agricultural demand and a shift in consumer purchases from bulk buyers and private fuel retailers to state-run outlets.

The government is closely monitoring the situation and has advised states and Union Territories to form special enforcement squads to prevent hoarding and black marketing.
