Defence Minister Rajnath Singh highlighted the Indian Navy's crucial role in securing commercial shipping lanes and oil tankers against emerging maritime threats. He praised the commissioning of the indigenously built stealth frigate, INS Taragiri, which will further increase the Navy's power and commitment.

Taragiri, a 6,670-tonne warship, features advanced design and engineering excellence, showcasing a sleeker structure with a significantly reduced radar cross-section, enabling stealth operations and enhanced survivability in complex maritime environments.

The ship is equipped with BrahMos missiles, modern radar, sonar, and missile systems, making it a unique naval platform for various roles, including high-intensity combat, maritime security, anti-piracy operations, coastal surveillance, and humanitarian missions.

With indigenous content exceeding 75 per cent, the ship highlights the maturity of India's domestic defence ecosystem, involving over 200 MSMEs and supporting thousands of jobs.

Singh emphasized the importance of maritime security, stating that it must be seen from a comprehensive and future-ready framework beyond the traditional perspective. He stressed the need to protect critical sea lanes, choke points, and digital infrastructure linked to national interests.
