India has denied reports that Iran sought the exchange of three seized tankers for safe passage of Indian ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal called the reports 'baseless', stating that there had been 'no discussion of this nature'.
He added that India is in talks with Iran and other countries to bring back its ships stuck in the Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway for global oil and gas trade.
India has been working to secure the safe passage of its ships, with two LPG carriers, Nanda Devi and Shivalik, successfully crossing the Strait over the weekend.
However, 22 Indian-flagged vessels remain in the Persian Gulf, carrying a total of 611 seafarers.
