The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has dismissed a viral claim that the US Navy is using Indian ports amid the conflict with Iran, calling it 'fake and false'.
The fact-check unit of the MEA took to social media platform X to issue a fact-check alert, stating that claims made by a US-based channel that Indian ports are being used by the US Navy are baseless and fabricated.
The claim was made by retired US Army Colonel and former Secretary of Defense advisor Douglas Macgregor, who said that the US Navy is having to 'fall back on India, Indian ports, which is less than ideal' due to US bases in the Middle East being 'destroyed'.
However, the MEA has cautioned against such baseless comments and has rejected the claim as false.
The conflict between the US and Iran has widened in the Indian Ocean, with a US submarine sinking an Iranian frigate near Sri Lanka, killing at least 80 people and leaving nearly 150 missing.
